What's Hot in Enterprise IT/VC - Issue #111
Sorry for the delay here, my dog got skunked, yes skunked, so trying to get the house back in order - another 4% drop on most stock market indices for the week and concerns about economy heating up, despite that innovation moves along - excited that portfolio co FortressIQ has graduated from seed to Series A with Lightspeed leading new round, had a chance to share some of my top enterprise trends for 2019 with Business Insider, and a must read from the CIO of Guardian Life Dean Delvechhio on how he moved a 158 year old org to the cloud - hint, it’s not just the technology
"At the end of the day, it's all about the developer. You're going to win opportunities in the enterprise. Any startup leveraging that developer first trend is exciting."- @edsim https://t.co/SpsHKn8R7U

congrats Pankaj Chowdhry (I’m Hiring) and team and thanks to our advisor Ted Shelton for first introducing us - RPA is hot but still quite difficult to manage and govern these processes at scale and also figure out what to automate - enter @FortressIQ - using machine vision and imitation learning to help large enterprises understand how they do work and what to automate - we at boldstart ventures were thrilled to lead the seed round along with Eniac Ventures Comcast Ventures and excited to partner with new lead investor Lightspeed Venture Partners on the Series A - https://lnkd.in/erAZQpi hashtag

Congrats Dean A. Del Vecchio - his keynote at AWS reinvent embodies everything we think about - still early days on enterprise move to cloud and it’s a holistic change, Infrastructure, people, culture - the speed at which @Guardian has done it is what amazes me the most and many more Fortune 500s need to move with this clarity and conviction - within this framework there is tremendous opportunity for startups to build big businesses
What’s interesting about Pivotal’s flavor of serverless, besides the fact that it’s based on open source, is that it has been designed to work both on-prem and in the cloud in a cloud native fashion, hence the Kubernetes-based aspect of it.
pretty amazing transition in a short period of time - Analysts at KeyBanc see Microsoft’s public cloud eclipsing Windows in terms of revenue for the first time in the 2021 fiscal year.
time to lock down your K8s pods - As is typical with our findings, lots of companies are exposing their Kubernetes API with no authentication; inside the Kubernetes cluster, small containers called Pods are ran. Essentially a pod represents a process inside the cluster.
By having this exposed, an attacker can not only see what is running on the Pods but also execute commands on the Pods themselves.
The result is that we are seeing worldwide many Kubernetes clusters having their Pods hijacked to mine cryptocurrencies.
trade war to real war??? - Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s global chief financial officer, faces extradition to the U.S., pending a hearing, which was adjourned until Monday
All signs point to China and another nation state attack
this would be awesome, looks like many cos are trying to get out and file before and if the economy slows down in latter half of next year - even not enterprise, Lyft and Uber rumored to have been filing
